A single-herb liquid extract of dried leaves of Eleutherococcus senticosus, cold-macerated in small batches and offered either as a traditional tincture in organic sugar-cane alcohol or as a vegetable glycerite.

About the plant

This is eleuthero leaf; the root and root bark are the more familiar article. Eleuthero is a spiny shrub of the Russian Far East, northeastern China, Korea and Hokkaido, growing in mixed forest, with leaves divided into five leaflets on a long stalk and young stems bristling with fine downward-pointing prickles. It belongs to the same family as ginseng but not the same genus, and since 2002 United States labelling law has reserved the word ginseng for the genus Panax, which is why the old trade name Siberian ginseng has disappeared from American shelves.

Tincture: Eleutherococcus senticosus dried leaves, organic sugar-cane alcohol, distilled water, vegetable glycerin USP.
Glycerite: Eleutherococcus senticosus dried leaves, vegetable glycerin USP, distilled water.

No added sugar. Contains no artificial colours, preservatives or fragrances.

Suggested use

Shake well before use. Take 20–30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a qualified healthcare practitioner.

Warnings

Eleuthero may raise blood levels of digoxin; do not use it alongside digoxin without medical advice. It may also lower blood sugar and affect blood pressure — take care if you are on medication for either. Not for use in pregnancy.

Keep out of reach of children. Not for use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. If you are taking any medication, have a medical condition, or are scheduled for surgery, consult a healthcare practitioner before use. Discontinue use if an adverse reaction occurs. Do not use if the tamper seal is broken or missing. Store tightly capped in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
